Armstrong Music Piezo Ceramic Disc Pickup

Measuring 20mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick, the piezo ceramic disc is an inexpensive yet very effective way to amplify your instrument. Unlike a regular electric guitar pickup that relies on electronically sensing a vibrating string within a magnetic field, the piezo disc picks up the natural vibration from the guitar body and creates an electrical signal. It is ideal for use on acoustic guitars or "cigar box" guitars for this very reason. The position of the disc can affect the tone of the amplified signal and experimentation is key in finding the best sound - typically mounting it just inside the soundhole of the guitar nearer to the bass strings often produces good results but as always personal taste dictates.

In terms of mounting, using a non-permanent soft adhesive such as Blu Tack means that no permanent modification to the instrument is required and allows for multiple repositioning to find the best sound position on the instrument. Blu Tack is normally sold in a sheet form that is around 3 - 4mm thick and keeping it at this thickness when mounting the pickup also helps remove some of the high-end frequencies. A piezo disc has the tendenacy to pick up too many knocks and 'scrapes' from the guitars sound board while being played along with also having a tendency to sound a bit too harsh. The layer of Blu Tack between pickup and soundboard resolves this issue.

As an additional option, it is possible to use more than one disc on an instrument and they can be 'daisy-chained' together in parallel to increase overall output as well as providing the ability to pick up the vibrations from two or more different areas of the guitar for more tonal experimentation!

Any order placed before 2.30pm on a working day will generally be sent the same day. If the order is placed after 2.30pm on a weekday or anytime during the weekend or a public holiday we will send the order the next working day.

UK Orders: 

• Royal Mail First Class - this costs £1.95 per order but becomes free if your order value is £30.00 or higher. Royal Mail typically aims to deliver First Class parcels for the next working day although can sometimes take up to 5 days. No signature is required upon delivery. You will be sent a tracking number but the tracking information is very limited. It will only be updated once an attempted delivery has been made. If you see the message 'An update will only be provided when we attempt to deliver your item' on the Royal Mail website, this means that an attempted delivery has not yet been made and is still processing through the Royal Mail network.
• DPD - this service costs £6.50 per order but becomes free if your order value is £90.00 or higher. This is a next-working day service and UK Mail will send an email or text on the day of the delivery with a timed 1 hour delivery slot. This service is only available for UK mainland addresses. A signature is required upon receipt of the parcel and deliveries can be made anytime up until 6.00pm on the day of the delivery.
• Royal Mail Special Delivery - this service costs £9.95 and Royal Mail guarantee that the delivery will be made the next working day before 1.00pm. Royal Mail will email or text you with delivery updates and a signature is required upon receipt of the parcel

International Orders:

• Any EU orders placed on our website that amounts to a total of €150.00 or less will be inclusive of VAT and fees. Therefore, the price that you pay at our checkout is final pricing - no additional handling fees or import fees.  Any order that is above €150.00 will not be inclusive of VAT or import fees and these additional fees will need to be paid to your local postal service, once the goods arrive at your local customs. (Please note, this all-fee-inclusive scheme is only applicable to business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions and cannot be applied to any business-to-business (B2B) transactions) 

• European Registered Post - for any address in Europe, this service costs £9.95 per order and is sent using the Royal Mail Tracked service. In most cases, the parcel is handed over to the local postal service to deliver it. A signature is generally not required but will be tracked to ensure a safe delivery. Most parcels take an average of 3 - 7 working days to deliver.

• European Registered Courier - for any address in Europe, this service costs £25.00 per order and we will select a courier to deliver the parcel. A signature is required upon receipt of the parcel. Delivery times vary but typically take 2 - 5 working days.

• International Registered Post - for any address outside of Europe, this service costs £12.95 per order and is sent using the Royal Mail Tracked service. In most cases, the parcel is handed over to the local postal service to deliver it. A signature is generally not required but will be tracked to ensure a safe delivery. Most parcels take an average of 4 - 10 working days to deliver.

• International Registered Courier - for any address outside of Europe, this service costs £30.00 per order and we will select a courier to deliver the parcel. A signature is required upon receipt of the parcel. Delivery times vary but typically take 3 - 7 working days.

Returns:

If you need to return a product purchased from Armstrong Pickups, please notify us in writing (email/letter) within 14 working days and then return the item to us within 28 working days in order to receive a full refund without the original delivery charge.  The cost of returning the item to Armstrong Pickups is not included unless the return is due to missing or faulty parts. 

The returned goods must be in a re-saleable state and any goods or accessories that accompany the returned product must also come back to us. The goods should also be returned with their original box, packing and accessories. Please click here for further details.
